It was an absolute honor to be a part of the Star of Hope Makeover project for my Fashion Image class at Houston Community College. After learning over the last few weeks in class how to assess a person's personal style and goals, then help develop their fashion style was within itself great knowledge. After our team was able to meet Michelle it was humbling and rewarding to know we can be a part of her life transformation.
I think Star of Hope was a good choice for Professor Andrea Bonner because it is a trusted and established organization that has been helping people for years. The existing life programs already in place at the Star of Hope allow our style transformation assignment to easily integrate to help impact the client's self esteem.
Knowing Michelle's history helped us better understand how the approach with choosing the best style of hair and wardrobe suitable to her goals. It is inspiring to know that Michelle is working hard to overcome trials in her life and stay committed to reaching her goals of good parenting, enrolling in cosmetology school, getting a job and being closer to her mother. We feel the wardrobe, accessories and hairstyle that we provided for Michelle will definitely help enhance her style to interview for a job and attend school.
I believe in the saying, "To whom much is given, much is required." Therefore, it is important for me to share my talents and resources in the community. I personally have an affinity for women's empowerment and support. Volunteering in helping to transform a woman's life at the Star of Hope is priceless to me. It seemed that our efforts were well received by Michelle and I hope she will continue to embrace what was special about our visit to help achieve her life goals.
