Recently, my Fashion and Imaging class at Houston Community College provided makeovers for ladies at Star of Hope as one of our assignments. Participating in the transformations at Star of Hope was an exciting and new experience. Taking on such a challenge was a fun way of using principles of fashion styling learned in the classroom and applying them to the real world. Putting together a head-to-toe look including hair and makeup for someone other than yourself made this project interesting.
The instant gratification of changing the appearance of someone and seeing confidence beam out of them, is a feeling like no other. When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good nothing can stop you. I personally enjoyed coloring, cutting, and hair styling for this project. Working with the wonderful ladies at Star of Hope made me realize how important it is to be selfless, reach out to others and pay it forward.
You never know what volunteering your time could do for someone else. If you have hidden talents break out and share them, your words or actions can make someone's day just that much better. I wish the women from our class makeovers nothing but the best with their new looks, and I would gladly do makeovers for Star of Hope again!
