Sportsmen Against Hunger

Safari Club International is a leader in the fight against hunger and the promotion of wildlife conservation. Several years ago, SCI Houston adopted Star of Hope as its charity-of-choice and found Star of Hope to be a great fit for these programs.

Through the Sportsmen Against Hunger program, hunters share their wild game harvest with those less fortunate. Since beginning our partnership with Star of Hope, SCI Houston has donated hundreds of pounds of preservative-free, high-protein venison. In addition to donating the venison, our members volunteer in the Men’s Development Center kitchen. Helping prepare and serve the meal is something SCI Houston volunteers look forward to each year. Not only do we enjoy working with the kitchen staff, our hearts are touched by the men we meet and the stories they share.

SCI Houston recently hosted a very special event for children who live at the Transitional Living Center. Through the hands-on SCI Houston Sensory Safari exhibit, the children had the opportunity to “meet” a variety of wild animals face-to-face. Their eyes grew even wider and the room was filled with excited giggles as many children held a snake and touched a baby alligator for the very first time. After these thrilling wildlife encounters, the children were eager to learn even more about the importance of conservation from SCI Houston and The Wetlands Center volunteers.

SCI Houston applauds the Star of Hope for its work in our community. As hunters who live in the Houston area, we are also proud to support Star of Hope through financial gifts and the donation of much needed personal hygiene items and clothing. If you would like to learn more about SCI Houston’s efforts to support conservation or participate in our support of the Star of Hope, please feel free to contact us.
