Star of Hope teens follow their college dreams

Each of us knows the cliché, “When life deals you lemons, make lemon aide.” For eight of our Stars of 2ommorw teens, this is more than a tired expression. This is their intention. One of my favorite times of the year is when we get to celebrate the accomplishments of our current and alumni teens as they graduate from high school and begin their college career.

Each of these teens at one point or another have come through one of our Star of Hope Mission facilities and played an active role through participation in our teen program. All of them have had to overcome insurmountable odds and difficult challenges in dealing with homelessness, family issues and many other traumatic experiences. Despite wanting to give up at times these teens continue to persevere to a better life and more positive future through their faith in God and the support and encouragement of friends and staff members they met while at Star of Hope Mission.

This year we are celebrating with eight of our teens as they spread their wings and continue their educational journey to follow their dreams by attending college. From local community colleges and local universities, to Georgia State and New Mexico, our eight graduates are launching out of the nest to realize their full God given potential and fulfill the destiny that He has for them. During our graduation celebration our students were blessed with a multitude of gifts that will help prepare them for college campus life as well as the knowledge that they are not alone because they have an extended family network cheering for them at the Star of Hope.

Thanks to our donors, volunteers, and staff, these students are able to live their own dreams and have a better foundation from which to grow. Collectively each of you have helped feed the faith of these students, and your generosity will indeed starve their doubts. Your kindness will not be forgotten or go unrewarded for when you did it unto the least of these you did it for Him (Matthew 25:40).

Please continue to lift these students and our mission up in prayer during this coming school season and a big congratulations to our 2014 graduates. Thank you to everyone who contributed to their success and for making this yet another Summer of Hope!
