Star of Hope Teens Give Back to Houston Community

This summer our teens learned the importance of serving others.

Using Mark 10:45 as their scripture reference and keeping with their theme “You’ve Been Served: it’s not about me,” our teens partnered with friends from Kilgore Industries and participated in the local program “Rebuilding Together Houston".

Their assignment was to help refurbish a former veteran’s Mr. Gene Dickson and his wife’s deteriorating home. For two Saturdays in June, our teens worked alongside Kilgore employees learning how to clean up flower beds, measure and cut wood for repairs, scrape peeling paint, caulk cracks around windows and eventually paint the entire exterior of the house. The elderly couple was very grateful for the work that was done by all of the volunteers. Our teens understand that many donors give to Star of Hope so that they can have a safe place to stay, live their own dreams and have a better foundation from which to grow. Several of our teens commented, “It made us feel so good to help this couple in need.”

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. -Mark 10:45 (KJV)
