Takin’ Hope to the Streets has been an awesome experience both this year and last. It’s a joy and privilege to work alongside amazing brothers and sisters in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to share the love of God to those in need on the streets of our city.
“… Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, the lame … Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.” - Luke 14:21, 23
We told everyone we met that we were there to bring HOPE to the streets, and that God loved them. Some just wanted food and were grateful. We were able to give advice to others regarding emergency shelters and other services. Most of the men and women we met allowed us to hold hands and pray for them.
With several people we were favored to share about sin and righteousness, God’s grace, his love for sinners, and what Jesus accomplished on the cross. And we left each person with a gospel tract.
One man, memorably, said he felt unworthy because he was evil. Then we were able to tell him, that we too were sinners, and there was great hope for him since he saw his need. He was in fact right at the Narrow Gate, all he had to do was enter. We told him, that Jesus had said:
“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners ...” - Mark 2:17
I look forward to seeing what God has in store for the event in the future!
