Springtime is here, sunshine and God’s rebirth in nature are visible everywhere we look! And after 5 years of prayer and planning, Star of Hope has broken ground on our new Cornerstone Community℠ campus. The clouds and drizzle broke just in time, and we had beautiful sunshine and God’s warm presence for this sacred and special dedication day, March 31, 2016. More than 200 donors and community partners attended as we prayed and celebrated the start of construction on this key part of our VISION 2020 for homeless women and families of Houston!
This Groundbreaking marks the beginning of a new chapter in our ministries for women and families. When construction is complete in the Summer of 2017, Star of Hope will bring ALL of our women and family services in Houston together, as we consolidate our current Women and Family Emergency Shelter downtown and our Transitional Living Center on Ardmore to this one location on Reed Road.
This new center will be home to 180 homeless single women and 105 families. Also, a beautiful chapel, a central park and a Community Center are part of the work underway. In addition, there are sites on the campus where key community partners will serve in collaboration with us, to provide the longer-term resources so many need, to end their homelessness, once and for all.
The name: Cornerstone Community is a name inspired by the book of Ephesians, with Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone of all that will be done here, as these women and families recover from their homelessness, and work to put their lives back together.
Today, let’s all REJOICE at the many new opportunities God is giving us to reach people with the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and to teach and equip each one to thrive as God’s children, with His blessings abounding in their lives. Ours is a special calling…. Blessings to you each and all as you serve HIM! Ending homelessness, one life, one family at a time …
