As we celebrate the 108th anniversary of Star of Hope Mission this July 1 and its calling to serve the homeless of Houston, I can’t help but marvel at how God has used this mission to further His Kingdom in the Houston area!
On the day Star of Hope opened its doors, the headline in the Houston Post read “New Religious Enterprise on Franklin Avenue Will Be Launched Tonight.” In his remarks, Dr. D.R. Peveto, Star of Hope founder, said “… we hope that the Christian men of the city who want to see some help extended the unfortunate class who are down and out … will come out and help us in our efforts.”
The people of Houston responded to Dr. Peveto’s call that night, and they have been responding ever since to God’s calling to help the homeless through the Star of Hope.
Since its founding, Star of Hope has stayed true to its Christ-centered mission. From serving only men in a single facility for its first 80 years, to now serving men, women and their children across our great city, Star of Hope provides life changing programs so that those we serve can find a new faith in Christ and a new life in our city.
Thanks to you and your support, Star of Hope faithfully operates its Men’s Development Center, Women & Family Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Center and Extended Services Team, serving 1,000+ each day.
Thank you to all of you who are a part of the Star of Hope community of donors, volunteers, alumni, and staff. You are a part of an awesome legacy of faith and compassion!
