One of the things I enjoy the most in my day is visiting one of our facilities. I love the interaction with our Clients, and learning about their progress and how God is changing their lives.
My visit to our Men’s Development Center last week was no exception. I was taking some visitors on a tour of the facility when one of our clients, Justin, spotted me from across the room. He came up to me and threw his arms around my neck in a big hug and, almost in tears, shared his great news.
“Mr. Rush,” he said, “I have become an American citizen!” His face was lit up by the joy he obviously felt. I can’t recall the last time I had seen so much joy radiate from one person. It was a special moment for sure!
Staff members later shared with me that Justin had come to the Star of Hope suffering from an addiction. He fell in love with the Lord, has remained clean and sober, and has progressed well during his stay in our Cornerstone Program. And for Justin…this was the happiest days of his life.
Justin is thriving in the Christ-centered environment of our Men’s Development Center. He may be homeless, but he is strengthened by his faith and the encouragement he receives from the staff and others like him who are overcoming their challenges and finding new faith and life in Jesus Christ. Surrounded by this love and encouragement, Justin has grown to know what it feels like to be loved by a body of believers, including all of you who support this ministry.
If you haven’t visited one of our facilities, I encourage you to contact us for a tour. Who knows … maybe on your visit you too could experience the blessing of meeting someone like Justin … a new, proud American and humble servant of our Lord Jesus Christ!
