Houston’s 2012 is off to the hottest start in 120 years, per the Houston Chronicle earlier this week. Record temperatures are being set already, and we could be headed to an even hotter summer than 2011.
Do you remember last summer? With many days over 100 degrees, AND even over 110? For the homeless men, women and children of our city, extreme weather is a very trying time... living in cars, crowded into apartments with friends, sleeping in abandoned buildings... all with no escape from the unbearable heat. For Star of Hope’s staff, it’s a huge challenge too… record overnight overflows, demand for meals, clothing, rest and most importantly, HOPE and HELP toward a better day.
We view all of this, however, as a blessing in disguise, as the excessive heat brings greater opportunities to touch lives and provide the emotional, physical and spiritual help they need to get their lives back on track!
Help us with preparations for this challenging but exciting three months ahead…which can truly be a “Summer of Hope.” Why not make a gift right now, as you begin your summer, and know you will be a blessing for someone in great need.
Enjoy your summer, and please keep Star of Hope in your prayers!
