One of the components of Star of Hope’s Vision 2020 is to help our clients improve job and life skills for successful independent living. However, before many of them can even think about looking for a job, they have to be able to feel comfortable in a work environment.
With that in mind one of our board members, Dana Tyson of Sunny 99.1 on iHeart Radio, came up with the idea to coordinate field trips for our clients at various places of employment.
Recently, five of our Transitional Living Center clients participated in a career exploration field trip to iHeart Radio where they met one of the best in the business, Dana Tyson herself, and learned all about the radio business!
These women were fascinated by meeting the people behind the voices that travel out of their sound systems, touring the facilities and experiencing the equipment and technology that goes into radio production.
Role playing was also part of the field trip experience as one woman took the opportunity to sit in the producer’s chair and act like a DJ. She was a complete natural! She went on to tell the story of how as a little girl listening to the radio she always wondered how it all worked.
The iHeart Radio tour was a great experience for the ladies as they learned about radio and broadcasting and had a chance to see how things really come together behind the scenes! A field trip like this one helps them have hope that one day they too could be employed given the right opportunity.
