Remember your senior year of high school and the excitement of selecting the perfect college that you wanted to attend? It felt like … just the next step.
Now imagine your senior year in high school, and you are homeless … never knowing if you will be able to return to the same school the next day, much less the next semester. Everyone around you is excitedly making plans, but for you, those big dreams of going off to college are not looking so promising … it is heartbreaking.
But at the Star of Hope our teens experience something different. From the moment they arrive at Star of Hope, we try to instill in them the belief that despite the challenges they face, they have a future because God has a plan for them.
From college visits to mentoring and tutoring programs to providing assistance with preparation for the SAT and ACT college exams, we speak to our teens in terms of “when” they will go to college not “if” they will go to college.
When God led us to start our teen services program six years ago, we were breaking new ground and did not know where it would lead us. But each year we can see the tremendous impact it is having on their lives.
This year, 10 of our teens graduated from high school, and all of them have set a definite course for the next step in their journey. One of them will be serving our country in the United States Marine Corps and the other nine will be attending college in the fall … two of them on scholarship!
Your generous support and prayers have helped set these teens on the path to end the cycle of homelessness that has been so much a part of their young lives.
We are so proud of our high school graduates, and we are so grateful to you for playing such an important part in helping to end their homelessness. I ask that you pray for all of our teens, but especially for these 10 recent graduates as they embark on the next step of the rest of their lives!
