Get Help Give Now

As we celebrate together this July 4th we can also remember and help the thousands of Houstonians, many of them veterans, who are struggling with homelessness.

Last week, Star of Hope was featured on a number of Clear Channel and Cox Radio stations. They talked about summertime for Houston’s homeless and the perils the heat brings to them. A friend of mine stopped by our home for something, and said, “Hey, I heard your interview on KTRH 740AM, and really learned a lot about how challenging the summer is for the homeless of Houston. I really hadn’t thought about it before.” We proceeded to talk for 20 minutes or so, about how individuals and families come in crisis day and night, seeking respite from the heat and needing help, and how challenging summer time is for them.

This week, while we’re busy grilling and enjoying the 4th of July and celebrating with friends & family, thousands in our city will be struggling just to find a few dollars for something to eat, for a safe and cool place to sleep, and for help to get back on track in life.

You can help turn despair into Hope by joining the Houston Area Toyota Dealers, who are generously offering a DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR MATCH of any gift given to Star of Hope, up to $15,000! Make a generous gift right now, and say a prayer for the lives your gift will touch with safe shelter, food, clothing, and help in their crisis!

Blessings to you and yours.

Besides money, what else can be done to help? Grace Presbyterian Church used to do a lot with Star of Hope. Do we still have a connection? We have an interim pastor, Sam Knight. We have youth, young adults, etc. Please let us know.

Do you take books because I have boxes of them that I can bring to you. I don't want to sell them but give them to somewhere that will use them.

Dear Peggy, we are now working with Hardie Morgan and Chris French on your Grace Presbyterian staff, so you can contact them about any service opportunities your church may be planning with us. Also, please feel free to contact Elizabeth Hatler at Star of Hope to discuss volunteer opportunities...her number is 713.440.5322. Thanks!
